Dr. Marnin Heisel

Marnin Heisel, Ph.D. C.Psych., is a clinical psychologist, an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at The University of Western Ontario, a Scientist with the Lawson Health Research Institute, Director of Research in the Department of Psychiatry at Western, and an Adjunct Faculty Member with the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is a leading Canadian authority on the study and prevention of suicide among older adults and other at-risk populations. His program of research has contributed novel scales for assessing suicide risk and associated psychological risk and resiliency processes, clinical intervention research, and development and evaluation of knowledge translation tools and training workshops for mental health and social service providers. Dr. Heisel’s research support includes project funding and/or career awards from CIHR (New Investigator Award and a Betty Havens Award for Knowledge Translation in Aging), the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (Early Researcher Award), Movember Canada, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (Young Investigator Award), SSHRC (Doctoral Fellowship), the Ontario Mental Health Foundation, and university and research institute project funding. As study co-investigator, he will assist in the development safety protocols and conceptual/methodological/statistical issues.
